Quality Matters

Diamond cutting discs are available in a large variety of qualities.
At first sight, these discs often appear similar in stores. This makes it
difficult for the customer to determine the quality. We would like to take
the opportunity to point out the factors that determine the quality of a disc.

Steel core

Safety from the ground up
The segments are attached to a steel core. It needs
to withstand the vibrations in the material at 80 meters
per second. DRONCO steel cores are manufactured from hardened and balanced tool steel types. They ensure clean cuts as well as a disc operation that is characterized by smoothness and a low level of vibrations. Subject to
professional use, the hardened steel core even prevents the so-called “relief grinding” which can result in segment loss.

Diamond Segment

The bond of the individual segments is the carrier of the synthetic diamonds. The high-tech bonds of DRONCO are specifically adapted to the respective field of application in order to ensure both the best results possible and the optimum wear of the bonds. The cutting ability and the tool life of a disc do not depend on the highest concentration, but rather on the proper amount of diamonds and the composition of the bond:
Hard material > soft bond
Soft material > hard bond

großer Bindungsverschleiß

Poor – excessive wear of the bond
The diamond grain separates prematurely.
This results in a shortened tool life.

geringer Bindungsverschleiß

Poor – not enough wear of the bond
The diamond grain is polished or broken off on the bond level. New diamonds cannot be released and the disc loses its cutting ability.

optimaler Bindungsverschleiß

Perfect – optimum wear of the bond
The diamond grain is evenly released. The disc maintains its cutting ability and achieves an optimum tool life. The trail of the bond provides optimum support to the diamond grain and ensures an optimum cutting ability.

Segment Bond

The connection between steel core and segment
There are various methods for permanently joining the diamond
segments and the steel core:

Soldering method
This method is characterized by the fact that the diamond segments are attached by means of soldering silver. As the braze point
could melt without water cooling and result in the separation of
the segments, this method is exclusively used for large diameter
wet cutting discs.

Sintering method
During a working process, the segments are sintered by means of high pressure and temperature and joined with the steel core.

Laser welding method
This method is characterized by the fact that the diamond segments are permanently welded to the high-quality steel core. As segment losses are almost fully excluded, this method ensures the best
operational safety possible. DRONCO utilizes modern laser welding technology in order to ensure a maximum level of safety.

DRONCO relies on synthetic diamonds

The diamonds perform the cutting action of the tool. DRONCO exclusively uses synthetic diamonds. Strict quality controls ensure a consistent level of quality. Synthetic diamonds and natural diamonds exhibit the same degree of hardness. In comparison to their natural counterparts, they offer the advantage of an optimum structure that always remains the same. We use our long experience to adjust the grain size and the crystalline shape of the diamond to the optimum parameters for the respective field of application in order to achieve optimum cutting ability and tool life.
